Foam paint is great for kids’ art and sensory experiences. Here are a few fun ways to use this fluffy art material.

Foam paint is such a fun sensory and process art experience for kids.
We don’t always get this fluffy art material out, but every time we do, our kids have so much fun with it!
It is basically like painting with a can of colored shaving cream. But better!
Foam Paint for Kids
Things we LOVE about it:
- It comes out of the can perfectly, like frosting.
- It is amazing to the touch.
- It’s vibrantly colored.
- It holds its shape for a while as it dries.
- And it’s not smelly the way shaving cream is.
The catch? This paint is not cheap. And our kids are so excited about the stuff that they tend to keep creating until the cans are empty. So, a few cans will last us only one, or maybe two art sessions.
If you decide to splurge on this fun sensory art material, you may be wondering what to do with it. Here are some of our favorite ways to use foam paint.
What to Do with Foam Paint?
It’s obviously a messy art experience, which most kids think is awesome, so if you decide to try it, you’ll want to do it in a good space for art messes or outside.
If your kids are like ours, they’ll want to cover their hands and lower arms with colored foam at some point. Tip: keep a bowl of water and some rags nearby so the kids can wash up as needed.
You can buy different colors, or you can just buy the white version. Then your kids can tint it with liquid watercolors, and they can create any color they’d like.
You can use foam paint just like any other kind of art material and spread it on paper. You can also combine different colors for color mixing.
What’s great about the foamy texture is that glitter, feathers and other collage items will stick to it and create a unique 3D piece of artwork!
Foam paint really gets our kids excited, and we always love seeing their creativity at work!
If you don’t want to spend the money on it, you can have a sensory art experience with any of these other materials:
How about you? Have you tried foam paint before?
