Tissue paper suncatchers are a tried-and-true Artful Parent craft. They are fun and easy to make and are a lovely addition to any window!

Of all the suncatcher crafts we have made over the years, these tissue paper suncatchers might be our favorite. They are super easy to make, and don’t require any special materials.

We also love them because no matter what you use to decorate them, they always come out lovely. We had so much fun adding feathers, sequins and spangles, and even a little glitter along with the tissue paper squares.

MATERIALS

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut your suncatcher pieces

Cut the center of your paper plate out to create your suncatcher frame. Then cut out circles from the contact paper, making sure they are slightly larger than the hole in the plate. The circle on the contact paper should be about a half an inch larger than the hole in the frame, so that it will fit the opening and stick to the plate.

  2. Attach the contact paper to the frame

Peel off the backing from the contact paper and stick it to the back of the paper plate.

  3. Create your suncatcher!

Add tissue paper pieces, glitter, feathers, sequins and whatever else you’d like to use for your suncatcher.

Push the pieces carefully onto the sticky contact paper, so they stick completely.

  4. Add a second piece of contact paper

Once your design is finished, peel the backing off another piece of contact paper and press it onto the open side of your suncatcher. Press firmly all around so that it sticks to the plate and the design.

  5. Add paint!

If you’d like, you can paint the plate with watercolors, to add an extra pop of color!

  6. Get your suncatcher ready to hang

Punch two holes in the top of your suncatcher and string a pipe cleaner or piece of string through the holes.

  7. Hang your suncatcher!

Find a sunny window and hang your suncatcher up to admire!

It was so fun making these suncatchers. So much fun, in fact, that we made more the next day! We see why these have been an Artful Parent favorite for so long!
